On Saturday night we made our way out to Arlington, VA for G40: The Summit. A huge group art show that features 500 artists throughout 5 different floors of an old office building. More background and general info on the show here.

After getting off the metro (DC’s subway), we followed signs for G40 that were stuck to the floor for directions which took us through a labyrinth of underground tunnels and bizarre “mall” stores before we arrived at the show. I have to say that I was super impressed with almost everything that was on display last night. The floors were broken up by geography, with a little mixing here and there. A lot of the artists, instead of hanging paintings on the walls, just painted directly onto the walls, floor, and ceiling. That was really interesting to see, especially in this office building. Seeing where there used to be cubicles, and rooms that were formerly offices for this shirt and tie universe that once existed here. Now it’s all covered in graffiti or some other form of art that is the complete anti-thesis of the structures former life. We really enjoyed the setting and the show as a whole.

We showed up later on in the night, around 9′o clock so a lot of the “workshops” were not happening anymore, but it looks like they had a screen printing station set up where you could either learn about and screen your own prints, or it was just an instructional forum. Drinks were served downstairs in the lobby, along with a DJ providing music. Throughout the different floors there was also music that kind of gave each one its own feel. Some of the artists also provided their own music in their designated space. It was a really good balance of mediums, although very little photography, and a super casual laid back vibe. Make sure if you can to head out that way and check it out. G40: The Summit will be going on through the end of this month.
