We had a few of these picked from the jump. As soon as we saw the 611 track bike the OOPM camp immediately started plotting how to run it out the front door and never return, but we decided we like Aaron and his wife too much for that. This is another well deserved award for Aaron and 611 Bicycles after winning Rookie of the Year at the 2010 NAHBS.
Bishop Bikes was the other bike that was going to be riot inducing if it did not walk away with an award. We were asked to contribute to the NAHBS Blog, “The Coolest Thing I Saw At NAHBS Today” by Paul Skilbeck, the media coordinator for the show, and yesterday before the awards our pick for the coolest thing we saw that day was Chris Bishop’s Columbus MS track bike. The work on this bike was absolutely amazing, no tube was the same shape, which needless to say made for some fun times getting this thing together. The build itself was also just beautiful as well with a custom stem, Shimano Dura Ace 10 pitch group set, flat blade spokes on the rims, and white detailing on the grips, tires and seat compliment the blue and green paint perfectly!
Independent Fabrication, Black Sheep, and Bilenky are always impressive, and this year was no different. Their awards are well deserved and we couldn’t be happier for them. We also have some great additional photos of their bikes to share with you in a little bit. Naked Bikes, who took the people’s choice award created a beautiful burly beast of a bike that made us stop dead in our tracks when we first discovered it. The leather wrapped top tube and grips coupled with the raw finish of the metal was possibly the manliest thing I saw all weekend. Additionally the straight bars paralleled the front hub, which was just a cylinder which had the connection bolts on the bottom keeping them hidden and giving it the cleanest look possible.
What an amazing show, and an amazing weekend. I cannot wait to recap the entire weekend for you guys, be on the lookout for that to be posted soon with many MANY photos!
Great blog. I just wanted to say thank you for your efforts!
