This Wednesday, February 1st, Van Gogh Up Close will be opening at the Philadelphia Art Museum. I’m really excited for it as I love Van Gogh’s work. I just purchased my ticket for the guided tour Friday morning and can’t wait! Below is an overview of the exhibit from visitphilly.com
Philadelphia will be the only place in the United States to see the incredible collection of works by Vincent van Gogh that helped change the course of modern painting. Created between 1886-1890, these paintings captured the final tumultuous years of van Gogh’s life and his feverish artistic experimentation up until his death.
Radically altering and often outright abandoning traditional painting techniques, van Gogh shunned conventional still life and landscape methods and experimented with depth of field and focus. Familiar subjects were brought “up close” into the extreme foreground or were focused on in unprecedented ways.
Van Gogh Up Close highlights his shift in tradition with more than 40 masterpieces borrowed from collections around the world. Pieces of fruit threaten to roll out of the picture, tree trunks dominate the frame and the intricate patterning of an Emperor moth are just a few scenes to explore during the exhibition.
The Figure of Fighting is a project that Philadelphia based photographer Jacob Klensin started 2 years ago dedicated to photographing fighters of all varieties from MMA, to Jui Jitsu, to Muay Thai and beyond. He’s been all over the country photographing fights and gyms to show the dedication that these men and women put into their art forms. There is a lot more that goes into and comes out of fighting than just the brutality on the surface that is all most people see. Jacob is looking to show a multi-faceted view of fighting as a sport, with all the joy, pain, and focus that comes not only out of the actual fights, but the training as well.
Now that you’ve been introduced I wanted to expand on the newest endeavor for Jacob Klensin and his project, The Figure of Fighting. In addition to showing all that can come out of training and fighting, Jacob has also taken the project to the next level by submersing himself in the culture entirely for a month. He will be training and photographing from a few select training camps in Thailand where he will be learning Muay Thai in the land of the people who invented it. Please be sure to check out his site and follow him through this experience that most people will never get. Also check back with OOPM as we will be posting and updating throughout his adventure as well.

“Until recently, surfing was completely banned in Chicago. The law was reportedly enacted after a deadly tragedy that involved three girls and an inflatable raft. As a result, the city banned all floatable devices, including surfboards.”www.surfermag.com

DAMN that voice is soooo annoying, no im not a Elmo fan. But i do find it fascinating how popular a red fuzz monster that has a mans hand up its butt is a super star. What can i say people are into weird stuff. I can also say that ever since i was little anything Jim Henson is the SHIT!! and on that note i will get to the point, turns out Elmo like most super stars and super hero’s, is getting a documentary done about it. Actually looks like i will be watching this (on the internet)
