Mommy, Can I Go Out And Kill Tonight?
Posted by Ronnie Bullets on July 16th, 2012

Much of my summertime was spent shredding with my BMX listening to Danzig’s crooning reaper lyrics layered with bluesy chords. I’d start rides with The Misfits, into the night with later Samhain, whose sound was transitioning into the slower self titled Danzig. I have never had the chance to see any iteration live. That changed the night of June 7th 2012, when I got the chance to check out the “Danzig Legacy Tour” at the Electric Factory here in Philadelphia. I was stoked for two reasons: The first and obvious, to see the evil live in the flesh but secondly, getting a photo pass and having the opportunity to shoot some close up bad ass photos! Unfortunately, I was limited to the first two songs of the show, so I was not able to shoot the Misfits set with Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein or London May from Samhain.

Photos and Playlist after the Jump

Not knowing what to expect, I can honestly say that from start to finish Danzig did not lose any energy. The man destroyed it! I had a great time all around and honored to get the shots that I did.

The show started with the following: 1. Skincarver 2. Twist Of Cain 3. Hammer of the Gods 4. Rebel Spirits 5. Her Black Wings 6. Devils Plaything 7. How The Gods Kill 8. Dirty Black Summer 9. It’s Coming Down. After a quick set change, Danzig reappears on stage with a wicked leather mask complete with two huge metal studs protruding out of his head as horns. At this point London appears onstage with a bass and drenched with bloody crimson. Samhain starts their set: 1. Intrium/Samhain 2. All Murder, All Guts, All Fun 3. Horror Biz 4. Unholy Passion 5. To Walk the Night 6. Mother of Mercy. The set ends, there’s a quick change and the Crimson Ghost leers in the background throbbing with green light. The venue filled with loud sounds of stomping. Danzig and Doyle appear and a killer Misfits set begins: 1. Death Comes Ripping 2. Vampira 3. Bullet 4. I turned Into A Martian 5. Night Of The Living Dead 6. Astro Zombies 7. Last Caress. The lights dim for the last set of the night. They brought it hard with: 1. Bringer Of Death 2. Not Of This World 3. Mother 4. She Rides 5. Skulls.

For an unknown reason spotify did not want to include Skincarver and all of the Samhain setlist.

I started in the photo pit, during the show I moved to the front of the crowd with some occasional visits to the bar. I had the chance to view the crowd from front to back. There were old heads there, maybe a few had a chance to see the orginal Misfits. There were younger fans there, and for a few such as myself this was their first time to see Danzig perform live. With screams, stomps, guts and blood, the crowd all hailed the legacy. Danzig’s unholy legacy.
