Mother’s Day Weekend!
Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing
The Spring Art Star Craft Bazaar is an outdoor retail art/craft show that is organized & juried by Philadelphia’s Art Star Gallery & Boutique. Over 140 local & national artists have been chosen to set up shop & sell their wares at the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing, right along the Delaware River. The event is being held on Mother’s Day weekend this year, so come to the show to pick up a perfect, one-of-a-kind gift for mom or better yet, bring your mom to the show for a fun day on the waterfront!
Shoppers can expect high quality handmade goods that reflect the unique & often quirky aesthetic of Art Star. Art Star has hand selected a diverse collection of artists that create anything & everything, including housewares, paper goods, dolls, prints, ceramics, clothing, accessories, paintings/drawings, sculpture, and many other one-of-a-kind curiosities. All items have been handmade from a variety of mediums that include fabric, clay, glass, wood, paper & much more.
The event will also include Live Music by local Philly bands, as well as tasty vegetarian/vegan friendly food by local eateries (TBA). We also have some other fun additions in the works, so check back regularly for updates.

Rochester NY – Art Collective
Posted by Jena.Serbu on May 4th, 2012
My father lives (and hoards) in rustic ol’ Rochester NY. Not much would pull me to this bygone home of the great hunter and Kodak founder, George Eastman, but the fact that my pops is there. Well, there are also some pretty rad artists, Lea Rizzo being one of them.

We begrudgingly shelled out a door fee for a not-so-awesome bar called Bug Jar where her work is currently installed. A little further exploration and her art led me to Sweet Meat Co. a Rochester art collective, not too shabby! Just wanted to share this with you… maybe there is a reason, other than my father’s 3246 beer signs, 392 lawn mowers and 7000+ “I LOVE MY KITCHEN” plaques to visit this slice of Americana.
Lea Rizzo’s installation remains on view through June 6

“PHILADELPHIA,” a Painting and Drawing show by Aj Rombach
Posted by Ronnie Bullets on May 3rd, 2012

You are cordially invited to attend “PHILADELPHIA,” an homage to the city that has raised me post-university.
It occurred to me about 5 months ago that I should paint this strange place. Since moving here, August 2010, I’ve been struck by the nature of the city: its subcultures, its layout, its people and its movements. Daily, the dramatic juxtaposition of decay and rebirth stops me mid-commute, constantly challenging what I consider to be normal to find in an American city in the 21st century. You can expect to see a body of work largely representational, although not completely, of scenes uniquely “Philadelphian.” These are moments belonging to my own personal experience in the last 4 months; they are from my kitchen, my rollerblade commute, a day at the museum or an interesting encounter. My hope, however, is that this show transcends my own experience and feels familiar to residents and visitors alike. It is a show that investigates appropriation, site specificity and the role of the illustrator as a sort of historian, a recorder of time. So please join me May 4th at Part Time Studios for the opening of PHILADELPHIA, A Painting and Drawing Show by Aj Rombach.

SALES GASPILLÉE! 1st Friday art show May 4th!
Posted by babz g. on May 2nd, 2012

Sales Gaspillée!
We are Art as Fuck.
Come see what all the fuss is about!
May’s motif – Edgy Irreverence and Sexuality. Duh.
Exhibit Location:
The Irish Pol
45 S. 3rd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106
Opening Reception
Friday, May 4, 2012
5-11PM
ARTISTS INCLUDE :
J.L. Joseph Beaulieu (Philly) Headlining photographer who’s meteoric upstart career fools us into thinking he’s an overnight success. A cross-motif of lavish ladies in irreverent poses, mixed with shocking self portraits … A combination that sounds polarizing, but meshes almost seamlessly. See it to believe it. A thousand words do no justice.
Amanda Shames (Philly) A painter whose embodiment has to be seen to be believed. A study in contrasts. A charming darling whose art betrays a Femme Fetale side that you could have only hoped for. One to watch, and who is hard to stop watching …
Fran Frank Francis (Philly) Infamous front man for notorious punk band Scareho – and sculptor? Artists of many mediums, this local legend does what he does. Fin. Onlookers be damned. You either love him or leave him – and we’re not leaving.
Recurring themes will include:
- Tater Tots, Starburst and Sweedish Fish on toothpicks (fancy as fuck!)
- 60 Ye-Ye GoGo dancing all night long!
- A Full Bar
- French 60s Gogo Pop all night long!
- Drunkenness.
Our 1st Fridays run late – because we don’t stop partying!
Mike Hans – Curator and Founder
Amanda Scarlett – Asst Curator, Hostess and GoGo Dance expert
Adam “Buttons” Burton – Asst Curator, Set Design, Photographer and SG! Artist Alum
Amanda Lynn – Femme Photographer and SG! Artist Alum
Zack Traum – Illustrator for ongoing SG! promotions and Artist Alum
