BMX bikes are iconic. There’s something about them that appeals to kids, adults and cyclists. And, of course, BMX is now an Olympic sport.
Rad Rides is the most in-depth exploration of the world of BMX bikes through their riders and the culture that surrounds them. The introduction explains and contextualizes the birth of BMX culture and where it is now, while the main body features bikes ranging from those that are well-worn through years of riding to beautiful, sculptural works of art – gleaming, built-but-never-ridden keepsakes.
The featured bikes are organized decade by decade and are BMXs drawn from the best collections in the world. There are also in-depth details of specifications and interviews with some of the collectors, many of whom have had their bikes exclusively shot for the book. This is the indispensable companion for anyone who loves the BMX.” Laurence King Publishing

This Weekend the Tenth Annuak MAYPRIL FOOLS FUN RIDE is back.
We’re proud to announce that our TENTH annual Maypril Fools Fun Ride will be taking place Saturday, May 12th! This is the longest-running scavenger hunt event around, and our focus is always on fun as opposed to speed. We invite riders of all sorts to take part! Basically, you’ll be given a manifest (HUGE list of checkpoints) aound the city to ride to – some of them real, some of them fake – and you route yourself as you see fit. Some checkpoints will be as simple as answering a clue from the manifest. Other checkpoints will require you to pull of some task or stunt, where you will be judged on your performance and scored accordingly. In the past we’ve included stuff like tricycle racing, karaoke contests, drawing contests, etc. There are also several stops at bars and venues around Philadelphia, and at the locations of several of our friend and sponsor companies around town. The winner is the person who has the most points at the end of the race. Regardless of whether you are going for the win, or just hanging out and taking it easy at a few checkpoints, you’re guaranteed to have a great time!
Birmingham, England. Brooks England is pleased to announce the release of the Brooks B17 Select World Traveller 2012 Limited Edition Saddle. This saddle celebrates our deep historical associations with the sporting heroes of the previous London Olympiad, as well as our rich relationship with devotees of Long Distance Touring, during the inaugural WCR Grand Tour (www.worldcycleracing.com), a competitive circumnavigation of the Earth by bicycle.
The leather surface features a restyling of a piece by Frank Patterson, artist and illustrator of the Brooks catalogues of the 1920′s, realized by Richard Phipps. All saddles have been made using Brooks Select organic leather tops, fixed to a chromed copper steel frame and finished with hand hammered copper rivets.
The B17 Select World Traveller is available at chosen Brooks Dealers Of Excellence from May, and production of the Brooks B17 Select World Traveller has been capped at 2012 pieces.
In the second episode of his new series, “Get Sylvester,” Nigel Sylvester provides a guided tour and snapshot of the city where he was born, raised, and built his career in BMX: New York City. Between hitting classic spots like Union Square and hood spots where cops are crawling, ticket books in hand, Nigel and his crew cover hundreds of blocks and still have time for a pickup game at Nike’s private Tribeca gym. Just another day in the life … Directed and filmed by http://www.harrisonboyce.com.
So we had been posting about the Chromes x John Cardiel Bag Collaboration, I stumbled upon this video that was on the NetworkA youtube show Dose. This is a perfect little wrap up video to check out John talking about his colab with Chrome.
When skateboarding legend John Cardiel suffered a gnarly spinal cord injury in 2003, he was given little chance of walking again. But his recovery led him to fixed gear cycling, an obsession that he credits with getting back on his feet and, eventually, on a board. Now, in collaboration with the urban cycling manufacturer Chrome, Cardiel has released a line of bags suited to his style of riding. Tim Brodhagen caught up with Cardiel at Chrome’s New York City store in Soho to get a look at the gear.

Bishop Bikes has been consistently impressive every time I see them. In 2010 and 2011 they were one of my favorite camps at NAHBS. Talking with Chris Bishop made them that much more of a great company to me since he’s always such a nice dude. Anyway, I came across this today over at Pedal Consumption and thought, “maybe my next bike should be a Bishop”…enjoy.
