Riding at night can be a daunting and dangerous task; many biking commuters are faced with the issue of being obscured when riding on the streets. Visibility at night is a vital component of biker safety, hence the need for reflectors and attachable lights. However, some of these devices are not always effective especially from the side.
We created a system that requires very little rider input and maintenance, while increasing the visual footprint of bikers from all directions especially from the side. We accomplished this by expanding the surface area of light emitted through the use of RGB LEDs inside the rims of the wheels that change from red when slowing down to white when at cruising speed.
It should be noted that Project Aura is a lighting system which allows a rider to be seen, but does not replace a forward facing headlight to illuminate the roadway. By law (in Pennsylvania, the laws vary state by state) a front headlamp and rear reflector are required, use of a rear blinky is up to the rider‘s discretion.
Some rad stuff going down in this vid. Check it out! Also be on the lookout for Mikes interview in OOPM Issue 2 that is, I promise, coming out someday soon!
We filmed this Hill in April 2011 during the very beginning of production for Macaframa’s second feature. This was filmed with our initial car mount system that is not as sturdy as the current setup, therefore being a little shakier than our standard for what will make it into the film. That being said, Massan kills it on every road he touches. Enjoy. ~ Macaframa
The London Ladies’ Hardcourt Bikepolo Club is pleased to present: Hell’s Belles, Vol 1 – London’s first ladies (majority) bike polo tournament. Sponsored by Brooks, Rapha, Chunk Clothing Co and Rollapaluza and organised with the help of the LHBPA.
The Idea:
Hell’s Belles, vol. 1 is the first annual ladies’ bike polo tournament to be held in London.
This year, our theme is ladies’ majority. The LLHBPC, in valuing the ‘mixed feel’ of throw-ins and broader tourneys, are seeking to encourage the continued rapid growth of women in bike polo.
So, whilst ALL girl teams are welcome (and cheered!), the ‘2/3s ladies’ rule’ applies to this tournament. As long as your team has a female majority (i.e. 2 of 3), you can enter. If you are 2 girls, who wish to form a team, yet unable to find another girl, or 2 girls who plays in an established ‘mixed’ team (i.e. two girls, one boy), registration is open to you also.
Friday 14th will comprise an informal ‘meet and greet’ and registration (Location TBA).
Saturday 15th starts at 9am, first game at 10am, finish at 9pm.
Saturday night party (location TBA).
Sunday 16th starts at 9am, first game at 10am, prizes presented at 9pm.
Teamless?
We can help make you a match. Registration is open to individuals too. For those who are among the few girls in your scene, we can help you find a third. For those who are the ONLY girl in your scene, we can help you find a team, be it all girls, or female majority.
Girls seeking girls? We can help! Girls seeking a boy? Get in touch! Boy seeking two girls? Classifieds (!)
More people live in cities than ever before, and many of them are taking their bikes to the city streets. Cyklar, bicicletas, and vélos are fun and inexpensive and they’re infiltrating asphalt cracks of cities across the world! For this challenge, create a t-shirt design inspired by the street, the bike, and the people of the urban biking movement. Take to the city streets. Visit bike hangouts. Research the history of urban cycling. Look at how bikes are reshaping your own city, from the social and economical impact to music, design, photography, and street art.
Keep in mind Chrome believes in simple, honest design; stuff that works well on a bike and in the bar. Create a design with all sorts of urban bikers in mind — commuters, professional messengers, fixed-gear freestyle riders, and journeymen on cargo bikes. We’ll choose several designs from this challenge. We’ll sell one on Threadless and the rest exclusively in Chrome stores and online.
The purpose of this challenge is to create a stand-alone design inspired by the theme, not a brand tee. Your design should not have brand names or logos on it.
