“Candock put together a long rectangular dock, made four units wide and 85 units long, then connected it to the shore of a beach and let it float over the breaking waves. This made for a pretty kick-ass time”-KNSTRCT

Exploration in dinning
Posted by Jessop.K on April 19th, 2012

When I first moved to Chicago I use to walk past this place called the explorers club and always wondered what the hell do I have to do to be part of this, never really followed up on this but this article I found a bit ago started me thinking, “I’m not so sure I want to explore this hard..” Though some of the meal sounds really good. Still not sure what this cult is really about but maybe when I grow up i will look into it some more.

Explorers club… are you ready?

RED BULL THRE3STYLE @ THE MID
Posted by Jessop.K on April 17th, 2012

RED BULL THRE3STYLE RETURNS TO THE MID
One year ago, Chicago based DJ Big Once started his journey to becoming the Red Bull Thre3Style National Champion by taking the Red Bull Thre3Style – Chicago title at The Mid. On April 18th Red Bull Thre3Style returns to The Mid with Six of the Midwest’s top DJs facing off to earn their chance to vie for the 2012 Red Bull Thre3Style World Championship.

Red Bull Thre3Style is an innovative concept that gives highly skilled DJs a global platform to showcase their skills, battle and gain notoriety by rockin’ the dance floor. Unlike other DJ battles that are based on solely technical aspects, Red Bull Thre3style has a creative and original format that seeks to find the DJ that has best perfected the true art of “party rockin’.” Six of the Midwest’s top DJs will vie for the audience and judges’ favor, each with a 15-minute set that MUST contain at least three different musical genres. A panel of music industry judges will select the winners based on track selection, creativity, mixing skills, stage presence and crowd reaction; and ultimately decide who is the best on the decks in Chicago. Self Portrait Project at Legion Recap
Posted by Jesse.N on April 16th, 2012

The Self Portrait Project event at Legion in Brooklyn on Thursday night was a lot of fun, and if you missed out, sorry sucker! I can say that it was worth the hangover I had to work through the next day with 100% confidence. The usual picture of fun was created with shots, drinks, and a dance floor live with Special Olympic hopefuls, at least judging by their dance moves. I hope that doesn’t offend anyone, but I also don’t care if it does. The photo booth was obviously the highlight so make sure you check out the self portraits over at Self Portrait Project on Facebook to see the whole round up. Here are a couple highlights from their Tumblr.

Car Party
Posted by Crystal Shephard on April 13th, 2012

Car Party is a band from outside of Baltimore who formed only just about a year ago. They released a new single on April 3rd called Dollar Signs which you can buy on iTunes. You can go see them live when their tour finishes up in Philadelphia on April 22nd at the Legendary Dobbs on South St.

Why did you guys pick the name Car Party?
Taylor: I live in the middle of nowhere, we say that we’re from Baltimore but it’s like 45 minutes from Baltimore. So we would just take these joy rides out to Baltimore just for sight-seeing and stuff. It eventually became this thing called a car party so we were trying to think of a name for the band name and it was just like let’s go on a car party and think about it.

What’s it like working with Ace Enders?
Chris: It was really good. He kind of formed what we are as far as even the smallest tones and stuff. He really catered to Mike’s voice since he heard something that was different so he thought we should sort of revolve around that. He has a creative mind so he worked really well with us.

I know you guys formed after Taylor posted on craigslist but how long did it take for you guys to become a band?
Taylor: I guess technically a year. I found Mike first, him and I are the original members. Jim, we found like seven months ago.
Jim: No, it was this time last year. It was April.
Taylor: Are you serious? No, it was after cause we recorded in May. Our first show with you was in June.
Mike: About a year.
Taylor: And Chris came from another band, he was the only person I didn’t find on craigslist. We were playing shows with him and was like this is what we need.

June Divided
Posted by Crystal Shephard on April 13th, 2012

June Divided is a four piece band from Philadelphia that oddly enough I had never heard of until I decide to go to SXSW (even more odd since I have quite a few friends in common with them) They will be releasing their full length this spring/summer that they’ve currently been working on since being back from SXSW. They currently have out a cd called The Other Side Of You which is available on iTunes. They’ve been playing various shows along the East Coast this week in Delaware, Pittsburgh and even Philadelphia of course. Be sure to check out the Warped Tour site to find out what dates they will be playing. Also, if you ever see them at any of their favorite Philly bars be sure to say hello to them, they’re all super nice.

What’s your favorite Philly place since you guys are from there?
Lenny: Favorite place to play? Or just eat?

Eat, play, whatever.
Chris: Grey Lodge, Monks
Keith: Uh, there’s gotta be a place that we love. Where do we love?
Lenny: We just had Buffalo Wild Wings before we came here.
Chris: We don’t love that though. Yeah it’s not that great.
Lenny: I had a fun time.
Keith: I’d say the Grey Lodge.
Chris: Yeah we love our beer.

Favorite experience so far at SXSW?
Melissa: We played at Fuel for Music Gorilla and that was at like midnight on Wednesday and it was awesome. It was this tiny ass little it wasn’t even a stage it was just us basically crowded on top of each other. Somebody bought me a shot, the bartender was like somebody bought this for you.
Guys: We weren’t sure what to expect.
Melissa: I haven’t had that much fun playing a show in a long time. It was awesome, I love those kinds of shows.

Self Portrait Project TONIGHT! @ Legion in Brooklyn
Posted by Jesse.N on April 12th, 2012

Tonight come out for The Self Portrait Project (SPP) at Legion, 790 Metropolitan Avenue Brooklyn, NY. Not familiar with The Self Portrait Project? What a dork you are! Anyway, it is an ongoing sociological, philosophical, fun project that puts the subjects, you, in whatever super cool outfit your have chosen for yourself to attract someone of equal of higher attractiveness, in control of when the photo gets taken. No more scouring the internet for the newest “look at me I’m on the internet kissing someone who’s not my boyfriend.com” watermarked photos. You can find all the photos a couple days after the event on the Self Portrait Projects facebook page. Also, if your picture sucks you have no one to blame but yourself and the bartender for not cutting your drunk ass off like he should have. We also did a lengthy interview with Andy Lin, founder of SPP last summer, which will be posted once we stop taking pictures of ourselves and drinking with him long enough to get it up…the interview that is.
