Car Party is a band from outside of Baltimore who formed only just about a year ago. They released a new single on April 3rd called Dollar Signs which you can buy on iTunes. You can go see them live when their tour finishes up in Philadelphia on April 22nd at the Legendary Dobbs on South St.
Why did you guys pick the name Car Party? Taylor: I live in the middle of nowhere, we say that we’re from Baltimore but it’s like 45 minutes from Baltimore. So we would just take these joy rides out to Baltimore just for sight-seeing and stuff. It eventually became this thing called a car party so we were trying to think of a name for the band name and it was just like let’s go on a car party and think about it.
What’s it like working with Ace Enders? Chris: It was really good. He kind of formed what we are as far as even the smallest tones and stuff. He really catered to Mike’s voice since he heard something that was different so he thought we should sort of revolve around that. He has a creative mind so he worked really well with us.
I know you guys formed after Taylor posted on craigslist but how long did it take for you guys to become a band? Taylor: I guess technically a year. I found Mike first, him and I are the original members. Jim, we found like seven months ago. Jim: No, it was this time last year. It was April. Taylor: Are you serious? No, it was after cause we recorded in May. Our first show with you was in June. Mike: About a year. Taylor: And Chris came from another band, he was the only person I didn’t find on craigslist. We were playing shows with him and was like this is what we need.

June Divided is a four piece band from Philadelphia that oddly enough I had never heard of until I decide to go to SXSW (even more odd since I have quite a few friends in common with them) They will be releasing their full length this spring/summer that they’ve currently been working on since being back from SXSW. They currently have out a cd called The Other Side Of You which is available on iTunes. They’ve been playing various shows along the East Coast this week in Delaware, Pittsburgh and even Philadelphia of course. Be sure to check out the Warped Tour site to find out what dates they will be playing. Also, if you ever see them at any of their favorite Philly bars be sure to say hello to them, they’re all super nice.
What’s your favorite Philly place since you guys are from there? Lenny: Favorite place to play? Or just eat?
Eat, play, whatever. Chris: Grey Lodge, Monks Keith: Uh, there’s gotta be a place that we love. Where do we love? Lenny: We just had Buffalo Wild Wings before we came here. Chris: We don’t love that though. Yeah it’s not that great. Lenny: I had a fun time. Keith: I’d say the Grey Lodge. Chris: Yeah we love our beer.
Favorite experience so far at SXSW? Melissa: We played at Fuel for Music Gorilla and that was at like midnight on Wednesday and it was awesome. It was this tiny ass little it wasn’t even a stage it was just us basically crowded on top of each other. Somebody bought me a shot, the bartender was like somebody bought this for you. Guys: We weren’t sure what to expect. Melissa: I haven’t had that much fun playing a show in a long time. It was awesome, I love those kinds of shows.
So as Record Store Day approaches we are starting to see more and more of the limited edition vinyls and what not coming out. For example check this strange split 7″ “Feistodon”. This split will find Mastodon tackling Feist‘s “A Commotion” and Feist covering Mastodon‘s “Black Tongue“. “The idea is for Mastodon to cover a Feist song and throw some hair and dirt on it, [and Feist will] take a Mastodon song and pretty it up a little bit,” says Troy Sanders of Mastodon. Record Store Day is April 21, 2012, So mark your calenders and make sure you pick up the “Feistodon” split 7″.
AND……. if your in to MASTODON there also doing a Mastodon/The Flaming Lips A Spoonful Weighs A Ton. Another in the Side by Side series created exclusively for Record Store Day featuring an original track (this time Flaming Lips’ “A Spoonful Weighs a Ton” backed by a cover from another artist (this time Mastodon)

“Equally at home on the radio as they will causing hearing damage at uncomfortably cramped venues.” Time Out 4/5
“Full-tilt, power-pop catharsis and ecstatic blaze-of-glory euphoria – catchier than H1N1.” BBC
“This is the sort of chorus-heavy rock stoopid rock that makes you want to punch children in their silly faces from the sheer joy of being alive.” NME 8/10
“There are shows that implore the crowd to dance, and then there are shows that beg you to shed clothing, convulse madly and slam into your neighbors with the courtesy of a drunken rhino. This is most certainly the latter.” LA WEEKLY
Longstanding Fugazi fans, JuiceheaDandOsaka Popstar, teamed up and took on the challenge of covering the punk classic, “Waiting Room.” A limited copy of the cover’s 7” will be released on Record Store Day (April 21st) with exclusive artwork by world-renowned Shepard Fairey (Obey Giant Art/Studio Number One).
The release features 50 hand numbered and signed 18” x 24” screen prints that will be available at select record stores on Record Store Day, signed by John Cafiero (Osaka Popstar), Casey Rider (of Studio Number One), and Shepard Fairey (of Obey Giant Art). The goal of the release is to reawaken the fun and experience of seeking out treasures from your local record store. “Indie Record shops have always been a breeding ground of great music, art, culture and ideas, but they’re becoming casualties of modern circumstance,” Cafiero says of Record Store Day. “It’s exciting and inspiring that artists and individuals are pulling together in recognition of that, and working to create a grass roots uprising in support of maintaining the existence of these small hubs that once were, and to many still are, sacred staples in our society.”
The release features an exclusive etched B-side showcasing the iconic Shepard Fairey sleeve art on black vinyl with a 1-in-10 chance at a red etched vinyl variant. The 7-inch will also include a free digital download card with the MP3s of the new single, plus extended “Time Bomb Remix” of the track. Participating Record Store Day stores are competing to be among those with extremely limited edition prints of the signed cover art for use in their Record Store Day celebrations. Record Store Day will also give away a few of these very collectible prints on their website, www.recordstoreday.com. A signed and numbered edition exclusive to the Osaka Popstar and Misfits Records online shops will be announced and available to the general public.

Rusko’s highly anticipated new album SONGS was released just last week on Mad Decent/ Downtown Records and planted itself firmly at #1 on the iTunes Electronic chart in the USA, UK, Canada, France, Ireland and Holland! He’s about to kick off a Spring US Tour in celebration and is giving fans a chance to be in the video for “Skanker”, which he has made available for free download here. Before they make the video, Rusko has a question for his fans, “Are you a dubstep skanker?” We’ve all seen that “move” before, but what exactly is it? You’re at a dubstep show and take a look around to see one guy flailing his arms recklessly through the air, another person headbanging so hard they could break a 2×4, and then of course…the open armed wing flap. RUSKO is giving everyone the chance to embrace their inner-”Skanker” and let their own interpretation of that feeling when you hear dubstep be shown to the world. Watch a video demonstration featuring A-trak and Diplo here. Fans have two ways to enter, they can print the mask and be filmed or film themselves wearing it at one of the upcoming Spring tour dates or they can film themselves with the mask anywhere and upload to YouTube. The full instructions are at:ruskoonfire.com/skankervideo . The winning submissions will be chosen at the end of the spring tour and placed in the official “SKANKER” video.
